Caution

Some safety precautions are essential: the beak of a heron, the claws of a bird of prey and even the bite of a fox can cause serious injury. It is recommendedAlways wear gloves and wash your hands after touching an animal.

Transportation

For most species it is best to put them in a cardboard box with small holes, in the dark, with a bowl of water and make sure there is a quiet environment before bringing them to the Care center. It is best not to feed the animal before identifying it. Forcing an animal to eat could lead to it choking.

The animal is large

In the case of large species, in particular mammals, deer, foxes, badgers, etc. You must contact the wildlife warden for advice and the procedure to follow.

I found a fawn, what should I do?

You should never disturb or touch a fawn that you think is lost alone in the tall grass. He is actually hidden by his mother. She comes back regularly, especially at the end of the day to take care of it.

How to help hedgehogs?
A young animal found, what to do?
-
Moderate your driving speed on the roads. Car are the main cause of death for hedgehogs.

-
Avoid using pesticides that can accumulate in hedgehogs' preys.

-
Stay vigilant with dogs or gardening tools, such as brush cutters, that can cause them serious injuries.

-
Leave small openings in fences for them to travel from garden to garden.

-
Give them places to hide during the day, under an unpruned bush, or a garden shed with dry leaves or straw underneath.

-
Take in hedgehogs with a strange behavior (i.e. if sway when walking, unable to roll up) and contact the care center for advice on actions to be taken.

-
At the end of October and November, a hedgehog should weigh a minimum of 400 grams to have enough fat reserve in order to survive the winter.

-
Young hedgehogs born late or adults that have encountered problems can be below this limit and should be taken care of.
-
Spring and summer see many young birds and mammals take their first steps in life. They experience their first falls, difficulties to find food and trouble telling the difference between friend or foe, and how to escape when in need...
-
The care center can provide help to those in need.

-
But before bringing young animals to us, it is necessary to be sure that their parents are nowhere to be seen, and that they are actually in difficulty.
-
For example, if you find an owlet, you can usually just put it back in a tree, and its parents will bring it mice or voles to eat when the night comes.
